London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Olympic flag handoverOn the 24 August 2008 the Olympic Flag passed from Beijing to London marking the official start of the capital's four year Olympiad.

Although Lambeth will not host any of the Games venues, along with the rest of London, we will be hosting the world.

Lambeth Council has put a team in place to ensure that Lambeth will be able to maximise all the opportunities arising from the Games. Visit this site for regular updates on our 2012 programme.


Key Dates

  • Early 2012 Torch relay begins
  • The Olympic Games opens on 27 July and runs until 12 August 2012
  • The Paralympic Games runs from 29 August - 9 September 2012

Sport

Culture

The London 2012 Games will, through the Cultural Olympiad, provide a platform for the arts and all forms of creative pursuits. The Cultural Olympiad is a four year programme of cultural activities celebrating the UK as a global nation. The programme aims to inspire the creativity of young people and leave a lasting creative legacy.

Volunteering

The 2012 Games will rely on up to 70,000 volunteers to help in running a successful Olympic and Paralympic Games. Use this page to find out more about how you can play your part.

Business and employment

There will be approx 7,000 direct contracts arising from the 2012 Games which, together with their suppliers, will mean around 75,000 supply chain opportunities. These opportunities are available to Lambeth businesses - whatever your size or sector - through the CompeteFor website.
