Activate Festival of Sport

Lambeth Country Show 2011
Activate Zone: Sports Area
16 and 17 July

BMX demonstration at Activate 2009One of the major attractions at the 2010 Lambeth Country Show was the Activate Zone – an area dedicated to the promotion of various sports and activities available in Lambeth. The 2011 Country Show is expected to be bigger and more exciting than last year as we continue to count down to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Visitors to the Activate Sports Zone will be able to 'have a go' at Olympic and Paralympic sports such as tennis, rowing, kayaking, and fencing or watch live sport demonstrations. Local sports clubs and trained sports professionals will be on-hand throughout the days to offer training and support as well as advice for those who want to join a club and continue with their chosen activity.

As a core part of this years Lambeth Country Show, the Activate Sports Zone will be held over two days on the 16 and 17 of July 2011 at Brockwell Park. We are currently in the process of organising the activities available this year but they will be broadly divided into:

  • competition - organised sports matches across a variety of sports
  • demonstration - exhibitions put on by various organisations and individuals (generally for viewing only and may not be open to public participation)
  • workshops/training sessions - interactive sessions where attendees can try an activity with assistance and instruction from trained sports professionals
  • have-a-go - activities are open for all to try out.

The Activate programme will be available here once all the sports and activities are confirmed.

Activities are free for everyone to try, so stop by Activate at the show to find your new favourite sport!
