Brockwell parkrun volunteers needed

What is Brockwell parkrun?

Brockwell parkrun logoIt is a 5km timed run, jog or walk, open to all abilities.

Whether you are interested in taking part as an established runner, wannabe runner or simply to improve your health and fitness, then parkrun is for you.

When and where is it?

Every Saturday at 9am in Brockwell Park, South London.

What is the importance of volunteers and what is required of them?

All parkrun events around the country are organised by a team of volunteers and ideally we would like to build 4 teams for the Brockwell parkrun so that you only have to volunteer one Saturday a month. That leaves the other three Saturdays free for you to join in the race!

What does the team do?

The parkrun team turn up shortly before the 9am start to ensure that the race is set up and ready to go. They then manage the run, time and register the runners, and that's about it. parkrun is a really simple concept and very little work is created for the volunteers.

The Legacy

parkrun is already successfully running in lots of different parks around the country, and very often starts with only one team of volunteers, which grows very quickly within the first few weeks as people realise how easy it is to help out.

What are the responsibilities required?

As a minimum we will need:

  • Race Director: In overall charge of the event on the day (in particular event safety), co-ordination of the volunteers, set up of the course and overall management of the run.
  • Timer: Responsible for operating the timer.
  • Photographer.
  • Number Token Distributor: Responsible for handing position tokens to all runners as they cross the line.
  • Number Token Assistant: Assists the Number Token Distributor by preparing the stacks of number disks.
  • Registration: Responsible for scanning fi nish tokens and athlete barcodes into our scanning device.
  • Administration: Uploads the information from the race later in the day onto the laptop provided. Responds to queries and e-mails.

It really is a straightforward event. No fuss, no complications, just a run.
