Latest parking updates
Information about new developments in parking and changes to our services.
Changes to our parking permit prices
From 23 February 2010 resident parking permit prices will go down for drivers of the most environmentally friendly cars, as part of our drive to cut pollution and carbon emissions in the borough.
The price of a parking permit for an electric car, for example, was £30 and is now free of charge, while the price for cars that fall into the next least polluting band has fallen from £100 to £90.
Permits for less environmentally friendly cars have risen slightly from £130 to £135 for those in band four, and from £160 to £180 pounds a year for those in band five.
The price for an "average" car remains frozen at £115 and the top price has remained capped at £200.
We have also made a small increase to our pay and display prices, and business, trader, motorcycle and visitor parking permits.
The money raised by parking permits will continue to be pumped into schemes that make our roads safer, such as Safer Routes to Schools schemes, traffic calming safety schemes, as well as Freedom Passes for elderly and disabled residents.
For more information see our parking permit prices as well as our emissions-based resident parking permit prices.
Temporary closure of Brixton multistorey car park
Pope's Road car park in Brixton will close temporarily on Saturday 19 December following health and safety concerns.
See our car parks page for a list of alternative parking spaces (pay and display) you can use in the meantime.

Parking around King's College Hospital
There have recently been a high number of incidents where vehicles have been issued Penalty Charge Notices as a result of being parked in an incorrect bay around King's College Hospital.
Visitors should note that there is a very limited number of parking spaces for cars in the surrounding area and are advised, wherever possible, to find alternative means of transport.
A full listing of bus and train times can be found at the King's College Hospital website.
In situations where travelling by car is necessary, we advise motorists to check the signs around the bay before purchasing a ticket as some bays are not available for visitor parking.
45 new free of charge motorcycle spaces in Brixton
Lambeth Council has increased the parking facilities for motorcyclists by introducing an additional 45 spaces in Brixton.
The new spaces are divided between two motorcycle bays that are located at the entrance to Brixton Multi-Storey Car Park on Canterbury Crescent.
There is no charge for parking in these bays and they are available for use 24 hours a day.
For more details on car parks within the borough please see Car Parks.
New Chip and Pin payment facility at Brixton car park
Lambeth Council has now made it easier for motorists to pay for their parking sessions at Brixton Multi Storey Car Park, with the introduction of a Chip and PIN payment facility.
In addition to the traditional payment methods of cash and cheque, from Monday 3 August you will be able to pay for your stay using your Chip and PIN card.
For more information, see Car Parks.
Exchange your resident permit for bicycle vouchers or car club membership
Lambeth Council is offering residents the chance to exchange their parking permits. In return they will receive a £200 voucher towards a new bicycle or car club membership and drive hours.
The objectives of this initiative are to reduce the amount of resident cars in Lambeth whilst promoting alternative modes of transport. This will ease congestion, improve air quality and increase the number of available parking spaces.
The scheme is open to any Lambeth resident who has held their parking permit for at least two years and who has sold their car.
For more information, see parking permit exchange.
New address for Parking and Traffic Appeals Service (PATAS) from 2 February 2009
Motorists appealing against parking and other traffic penalties issued in London will have their cases decided at a new centre from next month.
From Monday 2 February 2009 all appeals against penalties for Parking, Bus Lane and Moving Traffic contraventions will be heard at the new Parking and Traffic Appeals Service (PATAS) centre at the Angel, in Islington.
The new centre will have 13 hearing rooms, more than double the number at its current premises, to help reduce the length of time people have to wait to have their appeal heard.
Due to the move, some personal hearings have been rescheduled.
The address for the new centre is Parking and Traffic Appeals Service, Angel Square, Upper Ground Floor, Block 2, London, EC1V 1NY.
