Penalty Charge Notice charges
Following approval by the Mayor and the agreement of the Secretary of State, the current system of fixed parking charges penalties has been abolished and differential parking charge penalties have been introduced in place of it. The new charges came into force across London from 1 July 2007.
A two tier system which relates to the seriousness of the contravention has been introduced. The higher charge applies to contraventions associated with prohibited and dangerous parking. The lower charge applies to all other contraventions.
For example, a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) would be issued at the higher rate to a motorist who double parks or who parks on yellow lines when it is not allowed. A PCN would be issued at the lower rate to a motorist who overstayed in a pay and display bay.
The system of band A and band B roads will remain in place. Band A roads are those roads north of the South Circular (A205) and all roads in Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs). Band B roads are those south of the South Circular that are not in CPZs.
Please note: any tickets issued before 12:01am, 1 July 2007 will be charged at the previous rates.
