Brixton town centre improvements

Pavement overcrowding and general congestion in Brixton is set to become a thing of the past, as work begins on an ambitious redevelopment programme for Brixton Road. The programme is expected to take around nine months to complete.

Abnormal loads

When hauliers wish to carry a wide or heavy load which is above 40 tonnes gross weight, all of the local authorities through which it will pass must be informed in advance.

Bridges

There are a number of bridges and footbridges within the borough of Lambeth. The majority carry railways over roads and there are also bridges that carry roads over railways. We are jointly responsible with Network Rail for bridges that carry roads over railways.

We are responsible for maintaining and improving signs and lines, street furniture and street name plates.

Roads and pavement repairs

We repair and re-surface roads and pavements, maintain street furniture, and design and supervise major road improvement schemes, as part of our road and pavements repairs service.

Speed limits

Speed limits are introduced to ensure greater road safety.

Street lights

We provide street lights on all roads and footpaths, we maintain and repair street lighting, and we provide and repair illuminated traffic signs.

Traffic lights

We are responsible for the positioning of traffic lights in the borough, while installation and maintenance is the responsibility of Transport for London.
