Bridges

There are a number of bridges and footbridges within the borough of Lambeth. The majority carry railways over roads and there are also bridges that carry roads over railways. We are jointly responsible with Network Rail for bridges that carry roads over railways.

Bridge strengthening

In common with all Highway Authorities, Lambeth has been carrying out a programme of assessment of all bridges carrying roads over railways and other obstacles.

This programme has established which bridges need to be strengthened to carry modern traffic loading. The results of the assessments are submitted to a London wide bridges database administered by the London Bridges Engineering Group, LoBEG, and prioritised on a London wide basis as to strengthening requirements.

This priority listing is used by Transport for London(TfL),the funding body for Bridge Strengthening, for the allocation of funds to individual boroughs.
