Document summary
Since January 2008, the existing British Standards for asphalts are replaced by new European Standards. This means existing contracts are need to be revised in accordance with the new regulations.
Previously, London's 33 boroughs have used a wide range of materials which have varied in cost and quality. A proposed new list of recommended asphalt materials for London will mean will that the industry can concentrate on producing larger quantities of a smaller range of materials. This will lead to improved quality at lower prices.
The Londonwide Asphalt Specification document proves the following information:
- a translation of all the names of all asphalt mixtures used in London
- a recommended core list of preferred mixtures
- draft additional specification clauses, Appendix 7/1 clauses and schedules of rates
- guidance on the selection of materials for the various road classes as defined in the NRSWA gazetteer
- useful background notes for guidance on maintenance issues such as sustainability, skid resistance and tyre noise.
This document is an indispensable guide to the implementation of new European Standards in highway construction and maintenance works.
