Lancaster Avenue Community Freshview - 7 May 2011

Saturday 7 May 2011 saw the second Community Freshview day for the residents of Lancaster Avenue in Thurlow Park. Lead community residents Jonathan Haslam and Antony Mason contacted us in December last year to organise another event following the popularity and success of the first Community Freshview event in November 2010.

What happened on the day?

The residents of Lancaster Avenue were up early on Saturday morning, making use of the general and garden waste skips and the loose compost provided by Veoilia Environmental Services. Residents from both ends of the road met in the middle with wheelbarrows and bags to collect the loose compost and recycle their hedge and tree cuttings.

Lambeth staff were on hand with tools, trimming hedges and helping construct wooden planters to transform the appearance of some of the tree pits on the street. Residents filled the planters with compost and planted flowers which looked fantastic when they were finished.

Amongst all the hard work, residents found time to stop and talk with their neighbours and enjoy some well deserved refreshments which were kindly provided by Nelly's Nursery.

Community Freshview Feedback

"Freshview makes a valuable contribution, both in practical terms and what it does for social cohesion. People talk to each other more. New neighbours, including enterprises such as Nelly’s Nursery, are welcomed, get involved and realise that they can contribute too"
