Lorn Road Community Freshview - 21 May 2011

Lambeth officer working on plot

The Community Freshview on Saturday 21 May was the seventh for the local residents who own plots in the allotments on Lorn Road in Vassall ward. Work continued from the previous Freshview events, with residents clearing a large concrete area to make space for new plots. Two large skips were provided by our waste contractors, Veolia Environmental services. These filled up steadily throughout the day with residents taking the oppurtunity to recycle their green waste and dispose of unwanted concrete.

Our highways contractors FM Conway provided nearly 3 tonnes of planeings (recycled tarmac) to help create a defined path through the centre of the allotments. Excess planeings were used by residents to level the surface of the alleyway leading into the allotments from Lorn Road. As always, staff from Lambeth were on site to help out, providing assistance with pruning, digging and transporting waste materials.

Plot owners and residents were keen to continue working so tools were left at the allotments and collected on Sunday evening. The lead community representive has contacted the council to arrange their next Community Freshview which will take place on Saturday 15 October 2011.
