Me and my bike in Lambeth
The Me and My Bike in Lambeth photography competition has now come to a close and a winner has been chosen by the panel of judges.
The winning picture was taken by Haydee Velasco Flores who won £250 for a new bike or accessories.
"… the image was taken on Saturday 15th August at around 10am in Clapham Common, a place that has been part of my daily landscape on my way cycling to work within Lambeth. The best way of enjoying cycling is by sharing these landscapes with friends! Cycling has given me the opportunity to enjoy and see the beauty of large parks and commons around London and I’ll always say: when there is a park in between your destination, cycle!"
Here are some examples of the runners up which encapsulate the diversity of the cycling experience in Lambeth.
by Eileen and David Quirke - "I bought this bike in March. I had difficulties getting my two younger children to school, having to make three journeys a day on foot. This bike has solved this problem for now, but is also a great way to cycle around. My particular favourite journey with the children is going to Kennington Park."
by Sonia King - "The photo is of my 84 year old mother, who has loved cycling ever since she bought her first bike when 15 years old. This was with her first earnings. In fact, she loved cycling so much her mother once told her (in fun) that she would be - 'going to the toilet with it'!
"Now, on extremely rare occasions when my mum goes out with her bike, I can see glimpses of the young woman that she used to be - and can see the joy that cycling brings to her - though she cannot now cycle like she used to.
Her bike has been a true companion and friend and even with increasing age, her love for it has never waned or diminished. To see my mother truly happy, then I must see her with her bike."
by Matthew Adlem - "Cycling happens everyday to me. I cycle to work, to meet my wife and to get the shopping. Cycling in Lambeth makes me feel like going as fast as possible, racing buses and white vans. …The best time to cycle is when one doesn't have some where to be or a deadline to meet. The best time is when I'm cycling with friends and away from the sleeping cars in the morning or when it is pouring with rain soaking me to the skin.
"When I cycle I try to follow the highway code and always stop at lights. I respect other cyclists and feel so full of worship in my heart.
"My bike and I like cycling in Lambeth. It's the cycle path to the city."
Thank you to everyone who entered.
