Cycle parking
We want you to be able to take advantage of the benefits of cycling and understand that it's difficult to own a bicycle if you do not have a secure space to store it when at home and a secure space to park it when out and about.
We run a number of bicycle parking schemes, and we work closely with housing associations, businesses, estates and residents to improve bicycle parking in Lambeth.
Cycle parking when you are out and about
We install between 100 and 200 cycle parking stands every year so that all destinations can be reached by bike. If you know of a destination that needs a cycle stand please email Richard Ambler on rambler@lambeth.gov.uk.
Cycle parking at home
We understand that it is difficult to own a bicycle if you do not have a secure space to store it when at home so we run a number of schemes that make it easier to store your bike overnight.
Different types of cycle parking
There are several different ways of provide cycling parking. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The most important point is to choose the cycle parking that is most appropriate for the space. Some of the approaches we have trialled are:
Cycle parking schemes
We are working with a number of estates and residents to implement more cycle parking. Projects that are currently underway are:
- Loughborough Estate
- Caldwell Gardens
- Albert Square
- Westbury Estate
- Vauxhall Gardens Estate
- Canterbury Gardens Estate
- Macaulay Square
For information on upcoming cycle parking allocations, registrations of interest and pledges please see our allocations page.
Help us to improve cycle parking
We are constantly looking to improve the way cycle parking is designed and implemented. We feel the next step is to put residents in the driving seat and for us to facilitate and support them in making it happen. Some of the concepts that we are looking at in this project are:
- participatory consultation and co-production
- sweat equity for users of cycle parking
- championing of cycle parking
- social funding of cycle parking.
Contact us for more information about getting involved.
Housing associations cycle parking
We work with housing associations and two Arms Length Management Organisations to improve cycle parking facilities in Lambeth. This support can range from design advice through to match funding. We are currently working with:
- London and Quadrant Housing Association
- Peabody Housing Trust
- Family Mosaic Housing
- Lambeth Living (Arms Length Management Organisation)
- United Residents Housing (Arms Length Management Organisation)
We are also looking to work with more housing associations. Contact us if your housing association is not on this list or for more information.
