Cycling and cycle training
Lambeth has a range of cycling initiatives to get you on your bike and keep you going.
Lambeth is a great place to cycle, it has the advantage of having a number of parks and commons, which make for a more pleasant way to travel, away from the noise and fumes of the road.
More and more people are taking up cycling, encouraged by the freedom, expediency, health and money saving benefits it gives.
Exchange your resident permit for bicycle vouchers
Car owners in Lambeth are currently being given the opportunity to exchange their resident's parking permits for a £200 cycle voucher. To be eligible you must have held your current annual permit for at least two years and have sold your vehicle. For more information see parking permits exchange.
Cycle training
One to one cycle confidence training is available all year round by Cycle Training UK to people who live, work or study in Lambeth.
It is suitable for both novices and experienced cyclists and the courses deal with cycle maintenance, as well as on-road riding.
Just £8 (equivalent to one day's congestion charge) gets you as many lessons as you need to get road confident. CTUK also deliver a family riding course, teaching parents to ride safely with children.
Another course, cycle training for schools, teaches children to ride in realistic conditions but in a controlled environment. It provides lessons in how to interpret traffic bike control for example how to turn, look and signal (at the same time). Instructors take children in pairs and can even practice their route to school with them.
To book a one to one lesson telephone 020 7231 6005 or visit www.cycletraining.co.uk.
Cycle routes and maps
Lambeth has three major cycle routes, numbers 3, 5, and 25. The routes are part of the London Cycle Network, a combination of strategic cycle routes across the city which is currently being developed and expanded.
