Set up a Direct Debit

If you pay for Council Tax by Direct Debit, we’ll automatically take your payment from your bank account each month.

Direct Debit is quick to set up, and makes paying your Council Tax easy. You can choose which day of the month your payments will be taken out of your bank account.

If you have already set up a Direct Debit and need to change the bank account or payment date, you can change your Direct Debit details.

Before you start

You'll need your:

  • Council Tax account number
  • bank name
  • bank account number
  • bank sort code
  • name as it appears on your bank account

What happens next

We’ll send you a confirmation email to let you know we’ve received your application.

It can take up to 10 days for us to set up your Direct Debit. When it's set up, you'll get a replacement bill showing when your payments will be taken.

Problems with your Direct Debit

Contact the Council Tax team if there is a problem with setting up your Direct Debit.

You may need to make payments using another method until we can fix the problem. Check how to pay Council Tax.
