More Primary School places
We the undersigned petition the council to fight for more funds from central government so that primary school places are available to all Lambeth children.
There is currently an acute shortage of primary school places in Lambeth.
For the past few years we have been projecting a shortfall in primary school places, particularly at reception age. There are various factors for this which are beyond our control but affecting most of London. In order to carry on meeting our statutory duty, we have added temporary classrooms over the last three years, including 6 in 2009/10.
To respond to these challenges and using existing resources from government and the council we have developed proposals to expand our primary schools permanently.
A long term strategy, agreed by Lambeth Council's Cabinet, is in place to expand significantly the council’s primary school estate and certain schemes are underway already.
There are, however, severe funding constraints and additional funding is required to be confirmed urgently to commit to additional projects if the council is to be able to continue to provide sufficient reception places to meet the demand. We are calling on central government to release more funds so Lambeth can meet the demand for primary school places in the borough.
This ePetition ran from 16/11/2009 to 13/01/2010 and has now finished.
