Overview

Lambeth SACRE met in full on four occasions during the academic year 2002/2003

  • 16th October 2002
  • 4th. February 2003
  • 1st. May 2003
  • 10th. July, 2003

All meetings this year were held at the Lambeth Professional Development Centre.

SACRE members are sad to report that during the year Grainne Monks, who had represented the National Union of Teachers on SACRE for many years, died very soon after her early retirement. The Chair and the Consultant RE Inspector attended her funeral, which was a celebration of her life, on behalf of SACRE.

Also during the year Wendy Stevens (Association of Teachers and Lecturers) and Mary Williams (Chair, representing the Church of England) both retired. SACRE wished them well in their retirements. Khadijah Knight (Islam) also tendered her resignation from SACRE after many years of service as she wished to devote more time to her work in school.

The SACRE were delighted to recruit a representative from the local Hindu community and it is expected to have a meeting at the local Hindu Temple during the next year. The SACRE's Clerk, Marcia Corlis was on maternity leave at the end of the year.

This year the 2-year secondment of Sarah Thorley as Walcot Foundation RE Advisory Teacher came to an end. Sarah's work has made a difference to RE in several Primary schools where the subject had been a cause for concern and SACRE wish to acknowledge their gratitude to the Walcot Foundation for the funding which enabled this to be provided. Thanks are also due to Sarah for her commitment to the schools with which she has worked.
