Helpful hints for improving your search
The Lambeth search facility is designed to make searching the Lambeth website quick and easy. What follows are suggestions for getting the most out of this facility.
Problems using search with Firefox
At the moment our search facility does not work with Firefox browsers. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. In the meantime please use Internet Explorer.
Filtering search results
You can filter the results of your search using a number of simple techniques.
Excluding search terms
You can use '-' to tell the search engine to exclude certain terms from your results. For example Housing performance report will return documents containing all three words while Housing performance -report will include all documents which contain the words 'housing' and 'performance' but not ‘report’.
This is useful where there a lot of documents of a certain type which you want to exclude from your search, in this case performance reports.
Using a 'wildcard'
The wildcard ‘*’ allows you return results based on variations of individual words.
For example, a search for the term ‘stan*’ expands to include results for the following terms: 'stand', 'standalone', and 'stanford' where ‘*’ represents any additional letters which may come after the last character.
Spell checking
If you misspell a word in your search term the search engine will attempt to suggest alternative spellings.
Capitalisation
Search results are not case sensitive. The search engine will treat all letters submitted as lowercase. So for example searches for Lambeth Council, lambeth council or LAMBETH COUNCIL will return the same results.
