Clapham Common - Windmill Drive playground refurbishment

We're redesigning and installing new play equipment at Clapham Common playground to create an attractive, inclusive and safe facility for children and parents to enjoy.

Lambeth Council is delivering a one-off refurbishment project to improve the Clapham Common Windmill Drive playground. This project will mainly focus on the redesign and installation of new play equipment and landscaping of the playground.

Why are we refurbing the playground?

The playground has become run down and out of date. The layout does not work well and there is a large area taken up with a sunken sandpit, which requires valuable resources to maintain it in a safe and hygienic situation.

The new and improved layout will provide better access, safety surfaces, and inclusive equipment, so all children can enjoy the playground.

The expected outcomes are:

  • Address the historic lack of investment in Clapham Common playground and bring an underused, run-down area back into regular use

  • Meet high levels of local demand for an improved play area, evidenced in the master plan

  • Increase the number and diversity of local residents and visitors using the playground, promoting healthy lifestyles and contributing to the delivery of our 'healthier for longer' outcome

Works will commence in early September 2020. The works are due for completion in the Autumn of 2020. Please follow this page for updates.
