2. Our services

Our work is organised into six areas:

Service for complex autism and associated neurodevelopmental disorders (SCAAND)

Sometimes local CAMHS teams come to a decision that a child with autism and their family require additional expertise to support them.

In these cases a referral can be made to SCAAND.

SCAAND is a Tier 4 service that has a team of professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrists and occupational therapists. They can provide additional levels of expertise in autism and provide specific interventions. When a child is referred to SCAAND they are still under the care of community CAMHS.

SCAAND specialises in treatment for people where there are particular difficulties in diagnosis or management of autism and related disorders (ARD), including:

  • complex diagnostic issues
  • complicated and challenging behavioural and psychiatric problems
  • when services are seeking a second opinion.

This service also takes a special interest in families where more than one individual has ARD, including twins and affected parents.

We also offer consultation, genetic counselling, treatment, support and advice to families or carers in relation to parenting children with ARD or being a parent with ARD.
