Thank you to everyone for your feedback on the design proposals to improve the top of Babington Road at its junction with Mitcham Lane.

Why are we improving Babington Road?

Babington Road has been selected as the location for Streatham's new weekly street market. We want to create a better public space for it, less dominated by traffic, more suited to host the market and other community events, and better connected to Streatham Green.

What changes are we proposing?

  • The top of Babington Road will become a shared space and through traffic will no longer be allowed between Mitcham Lane and Babington Road, although a route out for large lorries will be maintained
  • New trees will be planted and seating introduced
  • We are working with Transport for London to see if a pedestrian crossing can be introduced on Mitcham Lane

Your feedback on the proposals

Over 200 people took part in a public consultation and we have received a lot of really helpful comments. We are collating all the feedback so we can make changes to the design where necessary. We have now completed detailed designs and are obtaining various approvals. The start date for building the scheme is now scheduled for January 2014.

How to respond

This consultation ended on Sunday 31 March 2013 and is now closed for responses.
