The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a new charge which allows us to raise funds from developers undertaking new build projects.
The money raised will be used to pay for infrastructure needed to support development, like transport, schools, health facilities, and parks.
To adopt CIL we have to first consult on, and then submit for an examination a Draft CIL Charging Schedule.
We consulted on a CIL Preliminary Draft Charging Schedule between September and November 2012. We took into account comments we received during the initial consultation and included changes into our Draft Charging Schedule. We invited representations on the Draft Charging schedule from 1 July to 12 August 2013.
As a result of points raised in the second consultation, the draft charging schedule was modified and a third round of consultation was undertaken in November to December 2013.
We then submitted the Draft Charging Schedule (with minor modifications), and relevant supporting evidence to the Planning Inspectorate. Following the examination in public by the Planning Inspectorate of the Draft Charging Schedule in February 2014, the examiner provided his report to the Council in May 2014, setting out the approved charging schedule.
You can see the examiner's report containing the approved charging schedule, and core evidence documents at:
