We want your views on our proposed changes to the SEND travel assistance policy and how this may affect you. The consultation runs from 1st October to 18th November 2019. Share your views with us now.

The Department for Education recently updated its statutory guidance on SEND travel assistance. As a result of these changes, we have updated Lambeth’s SEND travel assistance policy based on the changes to the guidance we must follow from central government.

What is our SEND travel assistance policy?

Our SEND travel assistance policy is a document which explains what our legal responsibilities are, who is eligible for travel assistance and the types of assistance which are available.

Every child is different, so all applications for SEND travel assistance are considered on an individual basis.

At first, we will look at whether a travelcard or fuel reimbursement can be given to parents who will support their children to get to school. We may also offer travel training, which helps children to travel independently and safely. Other options will be suggested if these are not appropriate.

We want feedback on the content of our policy, but also your comments and suggestions on the layout and design, to ensure the policy is clear and user friendly.

How to respond

You may also find the SEND Travel Assistance Guide for Parents a useful summary of the policy

It’s important we hear from you as your views are a vital part of our decision-making process. As part of this consultation, we will also be writing to every Lambeth resident who is currently using SEND travel support services.
