Black women dancing with a child

After the sold out success of bringing back the much loved Lambeth Tea Dance earlier this year, we’re delighted to say that we will be hosting another one as part of Black History Month 2018.

Come down and enjoy an afternoon of tea, coffee and cake, but more importantly 3 hours of Ballroom, Latin and Sequence dancing led by Mr. Wonderful.

No colour bar dance

Lambeth Town Hall has been the focus of civic life in the borough since 1908 and has recently undergone a full refurbishment – including the historic Assembly Hall.

In 1955 Lambeth hit the news for holding a civic dance in the Assembly Hall, known as the ‘No Colour Bar Dance’. The Mayor of Lambeth at that time welcomed immigrants from the West Indies and invited equal numbers of local residents to help new neighbours get to know each other.

As part of this year’s Black History Month celebrations, we will be remembering this joyous occasion and invite you all to get your dancing shoes on and take part.
