Do you need a fitness goal for the New Year? The Starfish Breakfast Run, which takes place at 10am on Sunday 6 March 2016 on Clapham Common, could be for you!
Our friendly event offers a choice of distances - 5km, 10km or 15km - and the course is totally flat around the common, so you can run as fast or as slow as you like, or join one of the many groups of friends who walk the course!
There’s always a supportive and friendly atmosphere, with crowds cheering along the route. Everyone gets a t-shirt and medal, as well as a picnic basket to enjoy on the common afterwards. There is lots to do after your run, with a tombola, face-painting for the kids, a bouncy castle and other stalls for all members of the family. If you are new to running events but need something to work towards to keep your fitness goals on track, this could be the perfect event for you.
The Starfish Breakfast Run is organised by the Starfish Greathearts Foundation, a UK-based charity that supports children with HIV and AIDS in South Africa. This year Starfish has once again teamed up Wasserman Media Group, sports and entertainment specialists, who have donated their time and expertise to make the 2016 event even better than last year.
Elinor Middleton, Global CEO, Starfish Greathearts Foundation commented, “Last year’s run was a huge success and we are aiming for an even bigger turn out this year to raise money for children orphaned by AIDS in southern Africa. We look forward to welcoming a big crowd on Sunday morning to run, cheer on their friends, or just enjoy the picnic. It’s incredible to think that just one person’s entry can provide two hot meals a day for a vulnerable child for over a week”.
Feedback from a 2015 participant: “The Starfish Breakfast Run was a good challenge for me to get my teeth into and at the same time it was such a great day out! The picnic bag was just what the doctor ordered afterwards and I will be back next year, maybe to do one of the longer distances!”
