Local land charges are sometimes registered against land and may affect land owners. You can request information from the local land charges register which is held by the council.

Local Land Charges were originally introduced to inform the buyer of any obligations which may affect them. These potential obligations are called 'charges' which when created must be registered against the land. As they are registered against the land itself, they can affect successive owners who must comply with them.

Important Notice
Please note that from Tuesday 1 October 2019 onwards, Lambeth Council will no longer provide a Local Land Charge Personal Search service or a search of the Local Land Charges Register (LLC1).
After Tuesday 1 October 2019, the Local Land Charges Register will be migrated to HM Land Registry. You will be able to access a new digital service through your portal account, business gateway and on the HM Land Registry pages on GOV.UK Lambeth Council will continue to provide replies to Con29 enquiries.

We will only accept payments that are made by postal order or cheques accompanied by a guarantee card. We cannot accept cash. If you pay by cheque and it does not clear, you will have to pay an administration fee of £25.

Next Steps

In light of the lockdown issued by the Government, please be reassured that the Land Charges Search Service is continuing to operate normally, and there will be no change to the service.

However, to ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of our employees, the Land charges team are working remotely, and they will not be able to process searches received with cheque payments. We are therefore requesting you to send all search applications through either NLIS (support@nlishelpdesk.co.uk), Info Track(propertysearches@infotrack.co.uk ) or TM (support@tmgroup.co.uk) searches as we have standing arrangements with these companies, who invoice us on a monthly basis and we have not been able to make other arrangements to facilitate applications with cheques.
