What you need to know...
You need to tell us, or TfL, the exact location of the pothole or street defect. Please be as specific as possible.
After an engineer has inspected a dangerous defect and made an assessment of it, we will respond by carrying out a repair or by marking the street ready for a contractor to attend to. If the defect is considered an emergency it will be guarded or signage will be put in place until a repair can be made. Our response times are as follows:
- within two hours if the engineer considers it to be an emergency, for example, if a manhole cover is missing
- within 24 hours if the engineer considers the problem to be urgent, for example, a lamp post that is leaning over, but is not in danger of collapse
- within three days if the engineer considers the problem to be a priority, for example, a deep pothole.
Any damage that is not in the above categories is responded to within 28 working days.
