Next Steps

After an engineer has inspected a dangerous defect and made an assessment of it, we will respond by carrying out a repair or by marking the street ready for a contractor to attend to. If the defect is considered an emergency it will be guarded or signage will be put in place until a repair can be made. Our response times are as follows:

  • within two hours if the engineer considers it to be an emergency, for example, if a manhole cover is missing
  • within 24 hours if the engineer considers the problem to be urgent, for example, a lamp post that is leaning over, but is not in danger of collapse
  • within three days if the engineer considers the problem to be a priority, for example, a deep pothole.

Any damage that is not in the above categories is responded to within 28 working days.

If you report a dangerous defect to us we will give you a timescale for our response.
