Durning Library Options Appraisal Report
Last year the Council commissioned Dow Jones Architects to undertake an options appraisal for Durning Library to look at how we could use the space more effectively in the library and where there were potential opportunities to generate income to make the building more financially secure for the future. Thank you to all those who contributed to the options appraisal process.
Since the work on the options appraisal began the financial pressures faced by the council have changed and the council will need to make significant savings across all of cultural services. Proposals for the future of cultural services were set out in the Culture 2020 consultation which closed earlier this year. By cultural services we mean local parks, open spaces, libraries, the borough archives, sports and physical activities and the arts.
Along with this options report the Council is carefully considering all of the comments and suggestions that have been received through the Culture 2020 consultation. A report will be published later in the summer which will be discussed at Cabinet which will set out the recommendations for the future of libraries, and all of our cultural services.
