A call for sites is an opportunity for developers, landowners and other interested parties to put forward for consideration sites they believe are suitable for development.

GLA call for sites

The GLA is undertaking a call for sites as part of the 2016 SHLAA (Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment).

Information about the SHLAA and how to nominate sites can be found on the GLA website. The deadline for submissions is 30 June 2016.

Lambeth call for sites

Lambeth carried out its own call for sites during November and December 2015, to collect information about potential development sites and areas in the borough.

Lambeth is embarking on a partial review of its Local Plan, adopted in September 2015. The review will mainly address the requirements of the Further Alterations to the London Plan, now incorporated into the London Plan 2015. Initial public consultation on the Lambeth Local Plan Review will take place in 2016. At present, the council is gathering evidence.

As part of this exercise, Lambeth carried out a call for sites during November and December 2015, in order to collect information about potential development sites and areas in the borough. We were particularly interested in the following four categories of site/area:

  • Sites with an area of at least 0.25 hectares, which have potential for housing development (including mixed-use development with an element of housing).
  • Areas or clusters of sites that should be protected for employment uses, particularly office, light industrial or storage uses.
  • Sites and/or areas that are particularly suitable for new waste management uses. This would include any activity contributing to re-use, re-processing or recycling of materials or goods, composting or energy recovery. The sites or areas suggested could be either existing locations currently used for a waste management purpose, which may be suitable for future expansion, or sites or areas with a future potential waste management use. These could be in areas also protected for employment uses.
  • Sites that could be used for gypsy and traveller accommodation.

We are currently reviewing the sites and areas nominated through the call for sites, and will consider these alongside the other evidence currently being collated for the Local Plan Review.

Nomination of any site or area does not mean it will automatically be allocated or successfully obtain permission for development for the suggested use. There may be other planning policy matters that need to be taken into account. Once all suggested sites have been considered, we will publish a summary list with the outcome of our consideration. This will be available for comment during the public consultation on the Lambeth Local Plan Review.
