The SCI sets out Lambeth council's commitments to involving local communities, businesses and other organisations in all planning decisions.

The SCI identifies who will be consulted, in what manner, and when the consultation will take place. The Government requires this document to ensure that communities are appropriately involved in planning for their areas.

The current SCI was adopted on 23 September 2015. It updated the previous 2008 version to reflect the council’s co-operative working practices, reduced funding, more widespread use of new technology and the internet for consultations, and provide a more environmentally sustainable service.

On 20 August 2018 the Cabinet Member for Planning, Investment and New Homes agreed to adopt an Addendum to the Lambeth Statement of Community Involvement 2015. In accordance with the requirements of the Neighbourhood Planning Act 2017, the Addendum sets out the types of advice and assistance the Council can give to neighbourhood forums at the various stages of the neighbourhood planning process.
