1. What are real nappies?

Real nappies are washable cloth nappies that can be used again and again. They consist of an absorbent layer, a waterproof layer and a biodegradable or washable liner. There are three main types: flat, shaped and all-in-one. Modern designs make using, washing and drying easy.

2. The benefits of real nappies

By switching to real nappies parents can save up to £500 per baby (including washing costs). We also offer a free £40 voucher for all new parents to help you get started.

Real nappies are made from breathable soft natural fabrics, including cotton, bamboo, microfibre and hemp, which are comfortable and gentle on your baby’s skin.

A baby uses as many as 6,000 nappies from birth to potty and each disposable nappy can take up to 500 years to break down. By switching to real nappies you could halve the amount of rubbish that goes into your household bin and help the environment.

Real nappies encourage earlier potty training. When your baby is changed from a wet cotton nappy to a dry one they feel the difference, it makes them curious about cause and effect and they start to experiment with holding and releasing their bladder - thus developing the necessary muscles earlier.
