There are various organisations in Lambeth that can offer information, advice and support around caring for a child or young person with autism.

Lambeth independent advice and support service (IASS)

local offer logo The IASS provides advice on the topics of education, health and social care for parent and carers of children with special educational needs.

Among other services, IASS provides guidance on communicating with professionals including dealing with correspondence.

National Autistic Society (NAS) – Lambeth branch

The Lambeth branch of NAS runs a monthly coffee morning, a monthly reading group, a weekly young adult social club, summer stay and play and parent’s seminars.

They also a have a comprehensive information pack – “Did You Know?” for parents and cares in Lambeth and also provide regular email updates to parents and professionals.

Contact (formerly known as Contact a Family)

A UK charity that provides information, advice and support for families with disabled children. They run drop-in mornings at the Mary Sheridan Centre – contact them for more information.

Lambeth Parents Forum

This is a voluntary group of parents and carers of children and young people aged 0 to 25 with additional needs and disabilities.

Their aim is to provide opportunities for parents and carers to influence the decisions that affect their families and to contribute to developing services that meet the needs of their families.

Family Lives

Family Lives offers an Independent Support service in Lambeth. Independent Supporters provide free and impartial information and support during the assessment and transfer processes of an education, health and care plan (EHCP).

Lambeth and Southwark Mind

A local charity that provides information and support for anyone experiencing mental distress or mental health difficulties. It is affiliated to Mind, one of the leading mental health charities in England and Wales.
