The council commissioned provider onHand to deliver a shopping service for residents of the London Borough of Lambeth as part of its programme for emergency relief during the Covid-19 emergency.
This is a shopping service targeted at people who are self-isolating and was launched on Monday 11 May.
Some key information:
- to access this service a resident or someone on their behalf, will call the helpline, details will be passed to the triage team who refer directly to onHand
- DBS-checked volunteers will then access the onHand app, look for live requests for help and respond
- once a shopping list has been made the volunteer, shops, delivers it safely and the resident then pays for their shopping via onHand’s secure telephony system
- buddying relationships are encouraged so often shoppers become befrienders
All referrals should take place via the helpline, on 020 7926 2999, open Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 6pm.
