Whistleblowing is a process that allows staff to express concerns about the conduct of colleagues and contractors.

The term 'employee' broadly includes employees, independent contractors, agency workers, trainees and a person who is or was subject to a contract to undertake work or services for the council.

The aim of this procedure is to encourage employees who have serious concerns about any aspect of the council’s work to come forward and voice those concerns.

Employees are often the first to realise that there may be something seriously wrong within the council.

We view whistleblowing as a positive act that can make a valuable contribution to our efficiency and long-term success. It is not disloyal to colleagues or the council to speak up.
