Kennington Park Estate is a large housing estate located between Kennington Park and Surrey County Cricket Club's Oval ground. Part of the grounds of the estate are gradually being converted from amenity grass to species-rich meadow grassland and wildflower beds, especially along the estate's boundary with Kennington Park Road.
Estate residents have been working with staff from Hydebank Soutbank, who own and maintain the estate, to look after these 'islands of wildlife' but to also gradually extend them so that the estate becomes even more valuable for nature and resident's enjoyment of it. You can see what wonderful work has been done to date when you're walking along Kennington Park Road, and there's more to come this year.
