Volunteer opportunities
Become a volunteer in one of the following areas of service:
Community Panel Member volunteer
The Community Panel Member will work in an informal group setting with the young person, their parent or carer and the YJS officer. Together, you will agree to a contract of interventions to help the young person repair the harm they have caused, to stay out of trouble and encourage them to thrive in the future.
You will need to be available for at least one evening a fortnight. We would also be interested in volunteers with daytime availability.
Suggested days and times for the volunteer Community Panel Member are:
- Tuesday/Thursday: 4pm to 8pm
- Weekdays: 10am to 5pm
Outreach Community Support volunteer
Outreach work takes place in the community and is targeted in areas where young people choose to congregate and associate. You will support and encourage young people and families to access local resources by informing them of what is available and providing information, advice, and assistance as required.
This role also involves building positive and sustained relationships with young people so that they have a trusted reference point should they need adult support. Community intelligence is also shared sensitively with the relevant partners.
You will need to be available for at least one afternoon or evening.
Suggested days and times for the outreach support worker volunteer are:
- Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday: 4pm to 8pm
- Saturday: 3pm to 8pm
Reparation/AQA Support volunteer
The role involves supporting the Reparation Coordinator and Intervention Officers working with young people in giving back to the community and making amends for the harm they have caused. You will also support young people with gaining *AQA (formerly known as the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) qualifications as part of their reparation or order.
You will need to be available for at least one afternoon/evening per week or on Saturdays each week.
Business Support volunteer
To support the business support team with administrative tasks.
You will need to be available during office hours from 9am to 5.30pm.
Appropriate Adult volunteer
The Southwark and Lambeth Appropriate Adult Volunteer Service is looking to recruit volunteers to join their busy and expanding service.
The role will safeguard the welfare, rights, and effective participation of children and vulnerable adults detained in police custody.
You will receive comprehensive training as well as ongoing support and supervision as you deliver this vital, challenging and interesting role supporting local people in a time of need.
You must be aged 18 or over and able to travel within Lambeth and Southwark.

We are looking for volunteers who:
- preferably live/work or study in Lambeth
- have a real ambition to improve their local community
- have the ability to build trusting and supportive relationships with children, families, residents and colleagues
- have excellent communication skills
- are consistent and reliable
- are willing to learn
In order to safeguard the children and families we work with, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.
