Thread Ahead

Thread Ahead provides brand new clothes, accessories and toiletries to refugees and asylum seekers, while reducing climate harm caused by the fashion industry.

They run dignified shop-like events at pop-up locations across Lambeth, including Sunshine International Arts and International House.

At Thread Ahead pop-ups, visitors can choose brand new clothes, accessories and toiletries for free, which companies would otherwise have destroyed as waste, usually in landfill or by incineration. They simultaneously tackle climate harm caused by the fashion industry and clothing poverty faced by our community in a way which prioritises agency.

Dignity and choice have a massive impact on mental health and wellbeing, particularly for visitors who are often denied these by the government and other service providers. By mimicking a 'shopping' experience rather than operating as a traditional clothing bank, they offer essential items for free in a dignified manner.

Thread Ahead anticipate that over 3,000 items will be distributed to at least 1,000 visitors over the coming year.
