The Proposal
Lambeth Council is engaging with the borough on an All-Age Autism Strategy which will aim to improve services and support for people with autism, regardless of their age. The strategy will be launched in 2023 and will include a number of initiatives aimed at improving diagnosis and support for people with autism, as well as raising awareness about the condition.
We are seeking views on the strategy from a wide range of stakeholders, including people with autism, their families, and professionals working in the field. The final strategy will set out a number of key objectives, including improving early diagnosis and assessment of autism, increasing the availability of support for adults with autism, and improving training for professionals working with people with autism.
The consultation will focus on 7 key areas, 6 of which are from the National Autism Strategy and 1 further key area which is a local initiative:
- Theme 1 - Improving understanding and acceptance of autism within society
- Theme 2 - Improving autistic children and young people's access to education and supporting
- Theme 3 - Supporting more autistic people into employment
- Theme 4 - Tackling health and care inequalities for autistic people
- Theme 5 - Building the right support in the community and supporting people in inpatient care
- Theme 6 - Improving support within the criminal and youth justice systems
- Theme 7 - Local Initiative - Improving understanding of the role and working with parents/carers
When the consultation ends
Once the consultation closes, based on the responses, we will develop the final Lambeth All-Age Autism Strategy, which will be published in Winter 2023.
