Purpose / Background
London Borough of Lambeth is consulting local schools and other interested parties about the site of the former Charles Edward Brooke School at Cormont Road, Myatt’s Field, London, SE5 9RE.
The site has been closed as an educational facility since 2012, and it is confirmed by the Lambeth Local Education Authority that it is surplus to requirement for education purposes.
Though no formal decision has yet been made, it is expected that the site may be brought forward for redevelopment or conversion of the site for housing. This may require a disposal of land interest in some or all of the site. Any proceeds are expected to be reinvested back into the local authority’s school estate. A final decision on the future of the site has not been made yet.
London Borough of Lambeth has invited primary schools within a 0.5-mile radius and secondary schools within a 1-mile radius of the site to express an interest, should they wish to do so, in using the playing fields (comprising tarmacked areas around the main building) in connection with their school.
This consultation is being undertaken in advance of an expected application to the Secretary of State for Education for appropriation or disposal of the site under Section 77 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (as amended by Education Act 2011). This will be subject to a future decision by the council.
