The Purpose
The aim of this consultation is to get your views so that the council can commission the right accommodation for children in care. This will help to ensure the best possible outcomes for those children and young people.
A child who has been in the care of their local authority for more than 24 hours is known as a looked after child. Looked after children are also often referred to as children in care, a term which many children and young people prefer. A care leaver is a young person aged 16-25 years old who has been ‘looked after’ at some point since they were 14 years old, and were in care on or after their 16th birthday. Care leavers are entitled to some ongoing help and support from the Council after they leave care.
This is an opportunity for your views to be heard so that the Council and other partner organisations can work together to put services in place that meet your needs.
The consultation will lead to a strategy and action plan for the next five years outlining how we plan to do this, what will be delivered and who will be responsible for making it happen. We hope to have these plans ready to publish by April 2023.

We will also be having separate conversations with children in care and those who have recently left care to ensure wider conversations are held to inform the strategy.
