The Purpose
We need the views and opinions of a wide range of people to ensure that our strategy addresses the needs of all carers in Lambeth. We need your help in doing that together.
We will use the results of the consultation to help us identify ways we can support young carers.
“Our vision is for families and carers in Lambeth to feel recognised, valued and included as equal partners in the support and care for the person they care for. Equally we want families and carers to have full, enjoyable and confident lives in their own right alongside their caring role.”
The Lambeth Carers Strategy looks to improve the quality of life of all unpaid carers in Lambeth. We are working towards ensuring all carers are:
- able to have a life of their own alongside caring
- supported to stay mentally and physically well
- respected as care and support partners at the heart of decision making
- young carers able to enjoy a thriving childhood and are protected from inappropriate caring roles
Who are young carers?
A young carer is someone under the age of 18 who looks after a family member or friend who has a physical or mental health condition, or misuses drugs or alcohol. They may also look after brothers, sisters or elderly relatives too. A young carer might care in all sorts of ways, be it through personal care, help around the home, or by providing emotional support. A Young Adult Carer is someone aged 16-24 who is transitioning into adulthood.
