Have your say on the proposed cycle hangar locations

Open date: Friday, 21 October 2022 at 9.00am Close date: Monday, 14 November 2022 at 5.00pm Type: Consultation Neighbourhood: Lambeth wide

Please note this consultation is closed

Following the success of previously installed hangars across Lambeth and the high levels of demand, we are proposing to install 50 new hangars across the borough to help meet the manifesto commitment of providing 5,000 additional secure cycle parking spaces by April 2026.  The consultation is open from 21 October - 14 November 2022.

WHAT?

A cycle hangar is cylindrical-like container with a gas sprung locking door to ensure quiet operation Inside, it has metal bike hoops to which one can lock a bike. Each hangar has the capacity to hold six bikes and takes up less space than a single car. Annual membership costs £42 per space and are available to apply for via the Cyclehoop website www.cyclehoop.rentals.

WHY?

Cycling is an important travel option for residents and contributes positively to making the borough cleaner and greener. Cycling also helps to deliver on the council’s wider objectives to reduce congestion, air and noise pollution and carbon emissions.

Demand for additional bike storage is extremely high in Lambeth, with over 6,000 applicants on the waitlist for existing cycle hangar spaces. In addition, large areas on our roads are currently used for parking of private motor vehicles so it is important that we also provide secure storage for residents who wish to cycle and may be unable to store their bicycles at home.

WHEN?

Pending the results of the consultation, we expect installations to take place between February – April 2023.

Once installed, memberships are managed by Cyclehoop. Spaces are offered on a first come first served basis and residents can apply for a space via the Cyclehoop website www.cyclehoop.rentals.

Please note: We are unable to guarantee the installation of hangars at all locations.

WHERE?

A map of the proposed locations is available here. Please note that these are approximate locations. Detailed PDF maps of the 50 locations are available for download below.
