Our updated Local Plan and our new Transport Strategy needs to tackle traffic congestion and ensure residents and businesses have access to appropriate transport. Complete the transport survey.
Transport has an impact on many aspects of our lives from where we choose to live, work and study to our health and the air we breathe. Population growth in Lambeth will put pressure on the transport network and our current policies need to change to respond to this. While the council does not control public transport services in the borough we need to be clear about what improvements are needed and ensure these are delivered. We do have control over most of the roads in Lambeth and our policies will have a direct impact on how we manage these.
We are reviewing policies affecting both new development and wider policies affecting the whole borough and bringing these together in a new Transport Strategy. The Lambeth Transport Strategy will respond to the Mayor's Transport Strategy and will set out short, medium and long term plans and objectives. Both the Local Plan and the forthcoming Transport Strategy will consider the role of walking and cycling in meeting the future transport needs of the borough. The Local Plan Review considers the role of development has to play in this, while the Transport Strategy will take a strategic approach to planning for and providing for those needs.
Alongside, the Local Plan Review consultation, we are seeking specific feedback on a potential ‘Healthy Routes’ network in Lambeth. We have identified a number of strategic and local routes that might be particularly important for trips by bike or on foot. To have your say on the Healthy Routes please visit the Lambeth Healthy Routes consultation webpage.
