Charles Gimpel and Brixton

Why did Gimpel, a successful West End gallerist, repeatedly come to Brixton all through the 1960s to photograph Black families in their houses, on their doorsteps, at their weddings and down their pubs? His highly personal photographs are the work of a friend rather than of a commercial photographer.
