Mark of Lilith (1986, 32 mins, Dirs Polly Gladwin, Zachary Mack-Nataf, Bruna Fionda), an independant horror film in which black lesbian filmmaker Zena, interested in the depiction of women in art, meets Lilla, a white, undead wraith, through a film come true. Playing off the lesbian vampire film motif of the 1970s, the film deconstructs the traditional image of the vampire and the horror genre itself by exploring the politics of race and relationships.
With scenes filmed at Brixton’s Ritzy Cinema in the 1980s, the film is an important part of its black queer history, fictionalising LGBTQ life in Lambeth during this time. The film is courtesy of Cinenova and held as part of their collections of feminist film and video made from the 1910s to the early 2000s
