London, the 1990s. After years in a hostel for young homeless women, Jaycee finally has a room of her own high up in Sky City, a north London housing estate. But escaping her past proves harder than she imagined.

Her best friend, Ella-G, has left for the glamour of New York's music scene. Both are daughters searching for fathers. When a rare record offers a clue to Ella-G's father, they follow its trail to Atlantic City. There, Jaycee makes discoveries that shake her sense of self and force her to confront the traumas she left behind. But can she finally find justice and healing?
