This 90-minute walk shows how shopping grew from nothing to make Brixton South London’s biggest shopping centre by the 1920s. The development of shopping was one of the key elements in the development of Brixton and a vital part of its history.

Join Lambeth Tour Guide Diana Bromwich for a 1.5 mile  walk exploring history, mystery and ministry. Start at Brixton Windmill, walk part of the Roman Road, follow some of the course of the Effra River.

Explore the treasures of Lambeth Archives and investigate original photographs, letters, maps and objects to uncover the story of a mystery person. Can you identify clues about their life, work and the time they lived?
