From May 1, the rules about private renting changed. The Renters’ Rights Act introduced major changes to how the private rented sector operates, giving tenants greater security and strengthening the council’s powers to take action where standards are not met.

Important changes for tenants include the abolition of Section 21 notices meaning that landlords will no longer be able to evict tenants without a valid reason, such as the landlord selling the property.
