Can you please provide a list of all the adventure playground sites where the council has either

• commissioned a company to build or rebuild outdoor play equipment,
• or where the council has given grants/income to organisations to replace or build outdoor play structures?

Please provide information on the amounts of money, the key dates, and who was commissioned or provided with funding to do this within the last 5 years.

Our response

We grant funded London Play Design to deliver a scheme to support APG’s in Lambeth in 2022. London Play Design state:

“One of London Play’s main concerns is the preservation of the capital’s supervised adventure playgrounds. In view of the high costs of maintaining timber play structures, we’ve recently started offering free repairs and maintenance. This is by way of delivering corporate volunteer days supervised by our experienced playground construction engineers. Unlike ‘conventional’ volunteer days that offer litter picking and weeding, the supervision by qualified engineers means we can tackle much more complex tasks which would normally require the services of expensive contractors.

The scheme’s aim is to do preventative maintenance so that the number of costly repairs will be reduced. Councils and voluntary organisations will save money that can be re-invested in staffing the playgrounds.”
