Our response
Bins on streets
Please can you tell me the number of public bins the council has provided in your area for the past five years (1 January 2018 - 19 January 2023).
The last time the Authority undertook a bin audit was in 2019, at which point there was a total of 860 litter bins on street. The installation and removal of litter bins within Lambeth Council falls under the remit of the Waste Collections and Street Cleansing contractor. Generally, litter bins are often relocated based on intelligence by the local operations managers, records are not always kept. Our system shows we have the following records related to litter bin installations within this period.

We implemented and installed 80 smart litter bins (solar powered) within our Town Centres for general waste and recycling, some these have replaced the older dual aperture bins. Aesthetically the smart litter bins look much better within the Town Centres, they also have a larger capacity thanks to the compactor inside and we believe they will help increase the quality of the recycling received.
More detail on the smart litter bins can be found using the following links:

Bins in parks
I can confirm that Lambeth Council does not hold the information requested. Regulation 12(4)(a) of the EIR states that a public authority may refuse to disclose information to the extent that it does not hold that information when an applicant’s request is received. I can confirm that the Parks department does not keep formal records for the first two questions and therefore this data is not held.
The final question does not apply, as the Parks service is run in-house and changes to the numbers of litter bins do not impact on service costs.
