Our response

  • Bid submitted: 02 August 2022
  • Bid title: Realising Streatham’s Potential: Culture, Health, Place and Space
  • Bid description:

Create a safer, more accessible, and environmentally friendly High Street through a series of interventions that will attract more people to Streatham and encourage them to stay longer. This project will help reinvigorate the area and create a vibrant and safe High Street, centred on wellbeing, culture and a greener future.

The proposal is made up of 3 strands:

1: A new Civic Quarter – Renewal of Streatham Green and St Leonard’s Churchyard (redesign and delivery of spaces focusing on local needs and priorities), creation of 4 smaller spaces along Streatham High Road (greening, seating, wayfinding) and the creation of new green public spaces on high street corners and side streets (introducing greening, sustainable urban drainage, seating, public art and possible activation).

2: Retail Revival – Shop front façade improvements to businesses along the Bridge Parade area to support local identity, heritage and civic pride.

3: Celebrating Culture and Wayfinding – Introducing a series of art installations to the public realm that aims to draw on Streatham’s cultural diversity (linked with supporting wayfinding through the town centre) and helps shape a distinctive place, providing a unique environment of which Lambeth and Streatham’s community can be proud. (To be underpinned by extensive local engagement and participation).

  • Amount requested from the fund: £3.9 million pounds
  • External contractors used in the bid: Alma-nac and Partnering Regeneration Development (PRD)
  • Amount paid to external contractors:  £14,000
